The Federal Polytechnic Ayede Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Multiglobal Nigeria Limited yesterday inducted a batch of youth trainees into its technical and vocational training programmes under the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) initiative facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The ceremony held at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Complex, Onipanu, Ogbomoso, attracted participants from the host communities and Oyo State at large.
The Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, represented by the Acting Director of the Centre, Mr. Christopher Oluwaseun Owojori, explained that the TVET scheme forms part of the Federal Government’s strategic plan to address the country’s widening skills gap and strengthen national productivity.

He said the programme was conceived to “train Nigerians to fill the gaps created by unskilled labour and to propel the economy of individuals and the nation at large,” adding that the government had recently set a target of equipping millions of citizens with employable technical competencies.

He noted that the Centre has been approved to train participants in social media communication, plumbing and pipe fittings, fashion design and garment making, painting and decoration, electrical installation, and photovoltaic (solar) installation—programmes carefully selected to align with emerging labour-market needs and opportunities for self-reliance.

Also speaking, Engr. Oluwafemi Muideen Tijani, Coordinator of Management Information Systems (MIS), immediate past Acting Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology at the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, and the Head of Quality Assurance Assesors at the Centre, urged the trainees to take the programme seriously and view it as a genuine pathway to skill acquisition rather than merely a monetary opportunity. He stressed that participants would undergo thorough assessment before certification, noting that the certificates would be issued by reputable bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), the Computer Society of Nigeria and other recognised professional institutions.

Other speakers at the induction/orientation programme included the Deputy Acting Director of the Centre, Mrs. Kafayat Olawumi Bulala; the Centre Manager, Engr. Musiliu Adenle Adiatu and FEDPA officer in charge of NELFUND, Alhaji Idris Kehinde Ismail.
At the event were the Acting Director of the FEDPA’s Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations (CICPR), Mr. Sunday Adepoju; his team of astute professionals and colleagues, Mr. Samson Oladejo and Mr. Aliyu Raheem, including a youth corps member posted to the Centre, Mr. Abdmuttalib Abdulganiyu, among others.
The event was also attended by Mr. Sylvester Eye, the Centre’s Administrative Odficer, and the trainers for various programmes.

Owojori stated that the TVET initiative is expected to empower beneficiaries with hands-on competence and entrepreneurial capacity, in line with the Federal Government’s broader agenda on youth empowerment, job creation and sustainable national development.
