It is dancing time once again for an Ogbomoso born Fuji music star, Alhaji Ramoni Akanni Oladoye. Coming from the ancient, Ogbomoso, a town that has produced so many music giants Late Ogundare Foyanmu, Adegbola Abolore Akande popularly known as 9ice Francis Ojelade, Dainty Ade Romero, Remi Adeoye, Salami Atanda Agbomojo, Wasiu Ayinde Agara, to name just a few.
Ramoni Akanni, no doubt, drank from the fountain of music in his environment. But this is a tribute to his genius that he has carved a niche for himself. He stands inimitable in the craft he has chosen. Alhaji Ramoni Akanni is one of the Ogbomoso greatest and most iconic musicians, the man Nigerians from all walks of life refer to simply as “Lecturer”, by any standard, one of Nigeria’s Fuji music stars, turns 54 years today. And his story, arresting in its illustration of the gains of talent nurtured with grit, is simply marvelous.
For lovers of music in Nigeria, Fuji music occupies a pride of place as it depicts a very special part of the social life of the Yoruba speaking people of Nigeria. As a brand that started with “were”, a wake up song for Muslims at dawn during the Holy month of Ramadan. Fuji music, created by the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, has gone through series of evolution to become the toast of millions of followers. However, one of the men that have remained constant faces of Fuji music for close to forty years is Alhaji Ramoni Akanni – Lecturer. It is on this note I congratulate Alhaji Ramoni Akanni, not only for his birthday, but also for daring the odds so sweetly.
