May 29 marks five years in the saddle of administration of Oyo state by His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde. I on behalf of all members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogbomoso zone and indeed Oyo state in general, and particularly my political family, l express sincere congratulations to that great leader, who has redefined governance. It is my prayer he will continually get better and be upheld by God, granted greater divine acumen, wisdom and what have you. I most especially thank God for giving us Governor Makinde. To BABA be all glory!
Without mincing words, five years of His Excellency have been remarkable and one of the best in the annals of the state. Despite the economic crisis in the last few years he has managed to raise the bar of governance and created ineffaceable achievements that have certainly cemented his greatness and legacy.
In all honesty, it is not a mistake he happened on us in the state, and it is not an error he was re-elected for a second term. He is not a disappointment really. His style of administration is refreshing, it foists peace on the people of the state. It is devoid of tension, the atmosphere is serene, unlike what we had in the past. Governor Makinde is in sync with the people; he is like a “god” with deep intuition and instinct that makes him be on the same page with the greater number of the people in every circumstance. He understands people’s psyche like some enigma, that is a secret of his immense success. He is a man of peace, who breathes peace, evinces peace, embraces peace, and dispenses peace. If he finds disagreeable your position or opinion he would not heat up the polity or send the temperature skyrocketing to drive home his thought frame. He will rather ruminate bringing in a lot of discernment and discretion and settle for the ground he finds best. He doesn’t have to hurtle through ramming down his position in anyone’s throat. He quietly, unnoticeably passes his opinion across by his stoic silence without casting insults or disparaging comments on someone with contrary opinion to give impression of or emphasize his superiority. He is some enigma l like to repeat.
This space will definitely not allow a presentation of his achievements but they are well known. Most sectors have felt his touch. His strides permeate every area. He is strategic in thinking and in action. It is evident in his administration and specific accomplishments. Let me do a recap of few of his legacy achievements for posterity. He is the governor who achieved sole ownership for LAUTECH, rebranded it and reignited its fire; his welfare package for workers is unbeatable, unprecedented and legendary; his health rejuvenation interventions are impressive; his educational revamping model excellent; his employments generation programmes inclusive, merit based and massive; just as his road revolution programme strategic and impactful, he has linked all zones in Oyo state with well-paved roads; unleashed agricultural production re-ordering; founding educational institutions and expanding existing ones in a dazzling manner; his touches are inexhaustible. The “Makinde Channel” is entertaining, redolent with enriching, educative, informative and laudable programmes.
Yesterday, he commissioned the 76.6km Iseyin-Fapote-OgbomosoRoad, which he constructed in record time. It is outstanding. And to make it historic, he brought the number one citizen in the country to inaugurate the project.
That’s a tactical way of revitalizing the memory of the President that there is a city, Ogbomoso, that needs federal government touch in areas as completion of 132kv power station, completion of the remaining 5 kilometers in Ogbomoso axis of the Ibadan – Ilorin new highway, facilitating relocation to the permanent site of Federal Polytechnic Ayede and so on and to generally to drive into the consciousness of Mr. President the larger Oyo state project. Governor Makinde has done marvelously well for us.
That is another demonstration of his efficiency and of the kind of spirit he is endowed with – of harmony. He cares no hoot about engaging the opposition leaders as long as it elicits a drive towards his goal of development; consider the number of governors and individuals in opposition parties he has invited to inaugurate projects in the state. It is heartwarming. Also, he embarks with relish, on completion of projects started by his predecessors, does not seek to overturn them and does not indulge in denigrating them unlike the usual Nigerian politician. His overriding interest is harmony.
That’s why l asserted he is redefining governance in Nigeria.
In conclusion, l ask the people to always tune in to the “Makinde Channel” on the Leadership Index TV. You will learn and be enriched exceedingly.
Dear Governor, I wish you continued success and many more years of accomplishments.
You embody the adage: “like fine wine, you only improve with age.” Keep flourishing, Your Excellency.
