Address by the Spokesman of George Green Baptist College Ogbomoso Old Students Association (GGBCOSA) on the Occasion of the 20th Anniversary of George Green Baptist College, Ogbomoso – October 6th, 2024
Distinguished Alumni Members,
The Principal,
School Board/Management,
Respected Teachers,
Current Students,
and Friends of George Green Baptist College
It is with great joy, honor, and a deep sense of nostalgia that I on behalf of the George Green Baptist College Old Students Association (GGBCOSA), felicitate with the Management, Teachers and students of our great school – GGBC to mark this historic occasion – the 20th anniversary of our beloved alma mater. Twenty years ago, a vision was born, and today, we are proud to witness the flourishing fruits of that dream.
As we gather here to celebrate the remarkable journey of our school, it is important to reflect on the profound impact George Green Baptist College has had on the lives of its students, its community, and the nation at large. Our school was not just an academic institution; it was and remains a beacon of light, molding young minds into responsible, ethical, and forward-thinking citizens. The values instilled in us – discipline, diligence, faith, and compassion – have become the foundation upon which we, the alumni, have built our personal and professional lives.
Over the past two decades, George Green Baptist College has contributed immensely to the development of not only Ogbomoso and Oyo State; but also, Nigeria through the achievements of its graduates. Whether in the fields of education, science, business, or public service, our alumni have excelled, consistently making meaningful contributions to society. Our communal progress, in many ways, bears the imprint of the knowledge and values imparted within the walls of this great institution. We have produced leaders, innovators, and change-makers who have left indelible marks in their respective spheres.
As we celebrate these accomplishments, we cannot overlook the indispensable role played by our dedicated teachers. We owe a debt of gratitude to the tireless men and women who have stood before us in classrooms, inspiring and challenging us to be better versions of ourselves. These educators not only imparted knowledge but also acted as role models, shaping our character and worldview. Their sacrifices, their commitment to excellence, and their belief in the potential of every student have been key to the enduring success of George Green Baptist College. How will I forget the usual words of “Pray so that you won’t pray again”, “Read, Read and Read”… We honor you today and always.
We must also take this opportunity to acknowledge the pivotal contributions of everyone who has worked behind the scenes to ensure that George Green Baptist College remains a thriving institution. From the visionary founders who set this dream in motion, to the administrative staff, the school board, the parents, and every individual who has played a part in the school’s growth – your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. The strength of a school is not just in its buildings or curriculum, but in the collective efforts of those who nurture its spirit. We thank you for your dedication.
As the Old Students Association, we are committed to continuing the legacy of excellence that George Green Baptist College represents. It is our duty to give back, to ensure that the current and future generations of students experience the same high standard of education and moral upbringing that we were fortunate to receive. We will continue to support our alma mater in every way we can, fostering its growth and maintaining its reputation as a center of academic excellence and character development. The Alumni Members have in their magnanimity concluded on marking this auspicious occasion with a legacy project which has been communicated to the school before this day.
To the current students, I say this: you are the torchbearers of the future. The values and lessons you learn here will shape not only your own lives but also the destiny of our country. Be proud of the institution you belong to, cherish the knowledge you gain, and carry forward the legacy of George Green Baptist College with honor.
In conclusion, as we celebrate two decades of George Green Baptist College, let us do so with a spirit of gratitude and hope. Gratitude for the remarkable journey thus far, and hope for an even brighter future. May our school continue to grow from strength to strength, producing more distinguished graduates who will contribute to the development of our nation and the world at large.
Happy 20th Anniversary, George Green Baptist College!
Thank you, and may God bless us all.
