It’s always amusing to me when I find people talking about marginalization. The question that keeps coming to mind is who is actually marginalizing who?
All states of the federation that were, if that will part of Regional governments of the old, presently getting steadily their various allocation and they have the independence in exercising discretion in the utilization of such allocation. It is therefore important to know that if people mismanaged their allocation and they attracted to themselves underdevelopment, poor infrastructure, self induced unemployment within a state and lack of focus, it is called self marginalization and it is not the fault of the constitution or type of government in practice.
It must be clear that constitutions are meant for people not people meant for constitution. It is the character of people that drive a constitution they are orientation and their thoughts that gives the sour or better results of a system. There are salient questions we need to ask ourselves if we must be sure to identify what exactly is the problem .
Is it constitution that stopped us from using our arable lands to create plantations and generate agro based jobs?Is it the Constitution that stopped us from using the Federal allocation for all Local Government to develop our grassroots? Is it constitution that stopped us from using our various research outputs from our universities to develop our region? Is it constitution that stopped various leadership at various cadres or tiers of government in the state from using the Federal allocations to midwife outstanding development projects?
Is it the constitution that made us to stopped cocoa farming/ and killed palm oil plantations and depending on the Federal location over the years despite the legacy of the people like chief obafemi Awolowo?
Is it the constitution that killed most of the legacies of Obafemi Awolowo in the name of Odua group of companies handed over to various Governors of the region?
Is it constitution that made us abandoned the various farm settlements established by the Regional Government and we started going for something that is making our people poor and jobless?
Is it constitution that made the Local and state Government abandoned trunk B and C roads as most roads suffered negligence? It amazes me when we start waxing rhetorics in some of these our writings that are far away from truth and realities
I can actually tell you that the name you call a system does not matter, it is about people that drive the system . What is their orientation, what is their thinking about governance, what do they define as delivery, what is their understanding of people, (real people or sociological fraud) what definition do they give welfarism?
