A mythical, popular but dreaded egungun in Ogbomoso, Awodagbese, on Tuesday, took to the streets of Ogbomoso as part of the celebration of the 2022 Egungun festival which had ended less than two weeks ago.
PanNigerian News gathered that Awodagbese outing was last experienced 26 years ago.
Awodagbese is a fearsome egungun from Osupa axis of the town with a unique attribute of dispensing fortune and misfortune during its procession.
According to myth, when a follower sustains any form of cut causing a wound while on its trail, such wound will not heal till the next time it comes out which is usually every three years.
It has similarly been said that if a follower finds money in its trail, such person will be many times lucky till its next outing as well.
The priestess and custodian of Awodagbese, Ojekemi Awoda, said she chose to worship and promote the deity as a result of the appearances of the spirit of Awodagbese in her sleeps.
The priestess said, “I never had interest in becoming the prietess of Awadagbese. But it kept revealing itself time in my sleeps. It would appear to me in dreams and all that.
“Awodagbese was brought from war front very many years ago.”
The celebration had started on Sunday and run till today, its final outing.
Awodagbese was abandoned for many years without anyone coming forth to put on its lappet; it was only recently that it was resuscitated, precisely two years ago.
A neighbour described the egungun as very dreadful and one of those mystical egunguns retrieved from the warfront.
Many spectators were following it religiously.
