The Federal Ministry of Tourism Art, Culture and the Creative Economy has officially endorsed the upcoming Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival 2024.
The carnival, it is noted, is in line with Nigeria’s commitment to cultural revival and economic growth through the creative industry.
The endorsement is contained in a letter dated October 9, signed by Mrs. Akudo-Nwosu, Director of the Ministry’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Department.
The carnival is initiated by the Soun of Ogbomosoland His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III with the maiden edition scheduled to hold in December, 2024.
The ministry, commending Oba Olaoye for his dedication to fostering social and economic growth within his community through culture, emphasized the importance of the event as a platform for job creation, social mobilization, and socio-economic empowerment.
The ministry further acknowledged the role the carnival would play in promoting Nigeria’s art, culture, and the creative economy.
“This initiative by the Soun of Ogbomoso aligns with our national vision of driving economic empowerment through culture,” the letter read, while expressing full support for the carnival and confirmed the Honourable Minister’s intent to attend, thus underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing cultural programmes that contribute to local and national development.
The planning committee chairman, Hon Williams Adeleye, while appreciating the ministry’s endorsement, said the carnival would showcase diverse cultural performances, craft exhibitions, and other activities that highlight the unique heritage of Ogbomoso and its people.
He added that Oyo State government has also included the carnival in their annual tourism calendar.
The carnival promises to be a vibrant celebration, drawing attention to the town’s rich cultural heritage, as well as offering opportunities for local businesses and artisans.
