The President of a socio-cultural organisation, Ogbomoso First Community Initiative (O’First), Barr. Olusegun Adekunle, has said that strategic meaningful development in Ogbomoso will be enhanced through the emergency of best and credible political leaders in 2023.
While reacting to the development status of Ogbomoso, a city in Oyo State, he said the electorate will be the deciders of the development of the city through wise decision in voting during the coming elections.
Barrister Adekunle, the governing board chairman of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, explained that the kind of leaders that emerge will determine how Ogbomoso will develop.
Speaking to PanNigerian News, he said, “Our people must be wise. They should learn from the past. They should let Ogbomoso be their focus. Eschew violence during elections. There should be no violence.”
He stated further that strategic meaningful should be the focus, saying “They should focus on development of the land. And development is not about street lights and the likes. I am talking about meaning strategic development.
“What I mean by strategic development starts from those we will be voting for. We must have strong men and women of Ogbomoso in strategic positions because we, as a community, must have competent leaders in government. Otherwise, Ogbomoso may be schemed out in terms of development.
“Do you think the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede came on a platter of gold? No! Who knows Ayede in Abuja? It is one person that mentioned Ayede. And we commend those who started the struggle and equally we commend those that completed it.
“So, wherever they are distributing development projects in this country, our people must be there. Federal Polytechnic, Ayede has come to stay. Works are ongoing on the school. There are stages to take off. What people will see is the admission of students. Before it takes off, there must have been lecturers and administrators in place. The school needs infrastructure, huge capital, among others.”
He added that track records of experience of those seeking elective positions should be a yard stick for electing them.
