
As part of activities marking the 2025 International Youth Day (IYD), the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogbomoso Zone, yesterday, embarked on a community development service aimed at giving back to the society.
The exercise, which was part of the programmes lined up for the celebration, saw members troop out to clean the Takie – Sekoni axis of the town.
The initiative, according to a statement by the media/publicity team of the council kn behalf of the Chairman, Comrade Mathew Oyewusi, was geared towards “promoting environmental sanitation, community responsibility, and youth-driven development.”
Speaking during the exercise, Comrade Oyewusi, emphasized the importance of community service as a way of contributing to societal growth. He noted that youths must not only be seen as leaders of tomorrow but also as active participants in addressing present-day challenges, including environmental hygiene.
He further encouraged residents to imbibe the culture of cleanliness, stating that a clean environment fosters healthy living and collective progress.
The community development service drew the attention of passersby and residents, who commended the council for the laudable initiative and charged the youths to sustain the momentum beyond the IYD celebration.
“This exercise is one of the several activities put together by NYCN Ogbomoso zone to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Day, themed ‘Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,’ it was stated.
