The class 1992 of Anglican Grammar School Old Student Association (AGSOSA) has renovated and rebranded a block of four classrooms and one office at their alma mater in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The project, which is part of the set’s 30th reunion anniversary which held last year at the premises of the school, was commissioned today.
Speaking at the mini commissioning/dedication ceremony today, the Principal of the school, Dn Abiodun Olowe, thanked the chairman of the set, TPL Femi Isola; chairman of the 30th reunion anniversary, Engineer Bolaji Ajao; the global body led by Prof. Gbenga Bello and the entire members of the class 92 for their supports at all times, leading to the renovation and rebranding project.
Dn Olowe stated that the project, running to about 8 million naira, would go a long way to improving teaching and learning in the school.
Dn Olowe said, “I want commend the AGSOSA national President, Prof. Gbenga Bello and the PRO, Dr Oluwabukola Olatunji that are around today and others around the world.
“To the class of 1992, it takes a courageous heart to do something like this and I want to tell everyone here that this project has gulped about N8m and these old boys and girls started like our present students. God bless you for us in Jesus name.”
Handing the project over to Prof. Bello on behalf of TPL Isola, Rotarian Steve Kehinde Babatunde congratulated the entire set for their magnanimity in giving back to the school.
The global President of the alumni association, Prof. Bello, thanked the set and the management of the school for their cooperation, saying “If you have done this as 1992 set and the school has provided chairs and desks, I think the onus lies on other sets and even the national body to complement this feat.
“We are going to have meeting and see what could be done in this regard.
“I, therefore, thank the association for giving me the privilege to serve and I’m humbled by the call serve.
“So, on behalf of the national body, we appreciate the 1992 set , the principal, management, staff and the entire students. It shall be to the glory of God and blessing of humanity in Jesus’ name.”
Speaking earlier on the reason for gathering, a member of the set, Dr Grace Ogunlakin, an Associate Professor at the Department of Food Engineering, LAUTECH, also commended the entire set for their sacrifice on the project.
“When we were to start this project, we were thinking on something small that would not gulp much money due to the pressure in the class. But God really helped us and we took this building as a project.
“We are here to appreciate God and to also give back to our alma mater. God has helped us and this is what we are giving back. It is to the glory of God,” she said.
The chaplain of the school, Revd Michael Osunleye, who recounted the story of Nehemiah in the Bible, praised God for the lives of the members of the set and commended them for their spirit, emphasising that “It is only God who has given them the grace.”
