The Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Dr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, has charged fresh students of the institution to be law-abiding and refrain from engaging in social vices that could jeopardise their academic pursuits.

Dr. Ojo gave the charge on Tuesday during the opening of a two-day orientation programme organized for fresh students of the Polytechnic.
Speaking at the event which had the Registrar, Mrs. Bukola Elizabeth Dairo, in attendance, Dr. Ojo noted that, although the institution was established just five years ago, it has distinguished itself among higher institutions in the country, earning a commendable ranking.
He emphasised that the achievements recorded by the management, staff, and students must be sustained and not undermined by any act of indiscipline.

Congratulating the students on securing admission, he reminded them that many others aspired to gain entry but were not as fortunate, urging them to make judicious use of the opportunity and remain focused on their goals.
The orientation programme featured a series of lectures delivered by seasoned academics and administrators.
Speaking on the theme, “Understanding the Polytechnic System in Nigeria, Career Development and Entrepreneurship,” the Director of Academic Planning, Ebgr. Dr. (Mrs.) T. M. Adepoju, who was represented by Mrs. Olonisakin, highlighted the historical evolution of polytechnic education in Nigeria.
She encouraged students to take their academic work seriously and begin early preparations for their future careers, stressing the importance of productive engagement to avoid idleness.
Also speaking, the acting Dean of the School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Dr. Oluwafemi Jacob Ayangbekun, delivered a lecture on “Study Skills and Time Management, Note Taking, Examination Preparation and Avoiding Academic Probation.”
He urged students to be diligent in their studies, attend lectures and practical sessions regularly, and prepare adequately for examinations.
He cautioned that poor academic performance could lead to probation and eventual withdrawal if improvements are not made.

In her presentation on “The Use of Electronic Library and Digital Resources,” Mrs. Ibukun Olanike Adeyanju of the Polytechnic Library enlightened students on how to maximize the use of both physical and digital library resources.
She noted that the library extends its operational hours during examination periods to provide students with access to necessary materials.
Similarly, Mr. Peter Adewale Oyeleke of the Bursary Department spoke on financial literacy, advising students to cultivate prudent spending habits in order to effectively manage their limited resources.
