The Nigerian Army says its troops have achieved several breakthroughs in the past 24 hours, freeing 21 kidnapped individuals, disrupting criminal activities and uncovering illicit crude oil operations in different parts of the country.
A military source at the Army Headquarters, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), confirmed that troops across various operational theatres have maintained heightened offensive actions.
According to the source, soldiers under Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara and Kebbi States successfully repelled attacks, protected communities and intervened in security breaches.
“In Maradun Local Government Area, troops of 1 Brigade confronted armed men who stormed Baigasuwa village. They were able to rescue residents, although four civilians sustained gunshot wounds,” the source revealed.
He added that in Kebbi State, terrorists struck a Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint in Bagudo, killing three officers and setting vehicles ablaze before escaping.
“Troops also freed five individuals and an infant on the Unashi–Doka road in Danko Wasagu LGA after the kidnappers abandoned their victims upon sighting the advancing soldiers,” he said.
In the Kogi and Kogi–Kwara axis, personnel of Operation MESA liberated four kidnap victims after engaging insurgents in Konan Leda, Lokoja. Following the operation, 11 additional hostages managed to regain freedom. Two motorcycles and a radio device were recovered from the fleeing criminals, while another abducted person was rescued in the Kwali area of the Federal Capital Territory.
Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, has intensified operations against crude oil theft. Troops and other security agencies in Eleme, Rivers State, intercepted 350 bags of stolen crude oil, estimated at about 10,500 litres.
During another patrol around Bonny, soldiers recovered several items allegedly used in illegal oil bunkering, including hoses, a Yamaha boat engine and multiple jerricans, after the suspects fled the scene.
The source noted that other theatres, such as those under Operation HADIN KAI in the North East and the ongoing Desert Sanity IV missions, reported no major incidents, though clearance and security operations continue.
The military assured that troops would remain on high alert across the country to prevent terrorists and criminal groups from gaining operational freedom.
