The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State has felicitated the Oyo State ministerial nominee and former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chief Adebayo Adelabu, popularly known as Penkelemesi, describing him as a thorough-bred technocrat cum politician of high repute.
Speaking on behalf of the Polytechnic’s management, the Rector, Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, noted that the widespread experiences of Chief Adelabu would be brought to bear in the President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
While congratulating Chief Adelabu, Dr Abdul-Hameed, through a release by the Polytechnic’s Protocols and Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Adepoju, and made available to news men said that the nominee, an illustrious son of Oyo State, would be of immense benefits to the country.
The statement, which read in part, quotes Dr Abdul-Hameed saying “I wish to congratulate Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on behalf of the management and the entire Polytechnic community on his nomination as one of the ministers-designate forwarded to the National Assembly by President Tinubu.
“I also advise the entire Oyo State to continue praying for the country, expressing optimism that Nigeria would be greater even amidst of the present realities.
“The rich profile of Chief Adelabu will be maximised for and Nigeria.
“We wish him success in the coming national assignment and service to humanity.”
Adelabu started his career with Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCooper), an international firm of chartered accountants and management consultants.
He was on secondment to the Central Bank of Nigeria for one year in 1999 when he led the finance team on the CBN re-engineering and corporate renewal project tagged “Project EAGLES”.
He left the firm in the year 2000 as an audit manager and senior consultant to join First Atlantic Bank as the Financial Controller and Group Head of Risk Management and Controls. He was later promoted to Chief Inspector of the Bank in 2002 and Group Head of National Public Sector Business in 2003.
Adelabu moved to Standard Chartered Bank as the West African Regional Head of Finance and Strategy (Consumer Banking Business) with dual offices in Lagos and Accra.
He was there till 2009 from where he became an Executive Director/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Nigeria’s largest bank, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, at the age of 39.
Adebayo was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2014 as Deputy Governor, Operations of the CBN.
Adelabu served as the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Nigeria InterBank Settlement Systems (NIBBS) and has chaired the board of Financial Institution Training Centre (FITC). He is also a serving member of the Board of Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC), the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL).
