The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, has commended the institution’s Sports Committee, led by Mr. Bashiru Bello, on the success of the maiden Rector’s Cup Tournament, 2024.
The tournament was in honour of the esteemed Rector, Dr. Abdul-Hameed, for his giant strides in sports development among other contributions to the progress of the institution.
In his opening address, Dr. Abdul-Hameed charged the players and students, including the staff, to prioritise sports as one of the extra curricular activities and develop their intellectual capacity as well.
He advised the two teams who made it to final, Computer Science and Agricultural Technology, to embrace one another after the final whistle as there would no winner or vanquished.
He said sports, all over the world, is the only unifying factor that cuts across race, tribe and religion.
He promised to support sporting activities at the school.
Present at the final of the competition which held at Community High School, Iresa-Pupa, were the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola JP, Ajiboye III and his Aresa-Pupa in Council; Deputy Rector (Academics), Mr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo; Registrar, Mr. Akin Odesola, represented by Director of SERVICOM, Mr. G. K. Olatinwo; Bursar, Alhaja Rashidat Titilola Oladepo, represented by Deputy Bursar, Alhaji Lukman Buari; Dean, School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) T. M. Adepoju.
Others were Director of ICT, Engr. Pius Adepoju; Director, Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori; Director, SIWES, Dr. Abdulai Ibrahim; HOD, Accountancy , Dr. Saheed Shittu; HOD, SLT, Dr. Kehinde Odelade; HOD, Computer Science, Mrs. F. O. Adegbola; HOD, Agricultural Technology, Mrs. A. A. Onaolapo; staff, students, among others.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the competition, the General Manager of Crown FC, Ogbomoso, Mr. Olumide Olusanjo Ilupeju, lauded the institution for the initiative which, according to him, would help on talent discovery.
Ilupeju has, therefore, invited the tournament’s most valuable player, Tawab Isola Afolabi, an ND 1 student of the Department of Computer Science for trial at the Crown FC, Ogbomoso.
Ilupeju noted that he was impressed by the players’ skills and commended Mr. Bashiru Bello and his team for excellent strides in sports development.
The spectators were thrilled by the players of the two teams.
The match ended 4 – 0 in favour of Computer Science Department defeating Agricultural Technology Department.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed, Oba Olayiwola, Mr. Ojo, and Mr. Ilupeju, on behalf of the institution, presented the players with medals and various cash awards.
