The Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Hon. Yakubu Dati, has appealed to government, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to support the institution with critical infrastructure, particularly road networks, student hostel accommodation and other facilities.
Hon. Dati made the appeal during the institution’s maiden combined convocation ceremony, urging stakeholders to partner the Polytechnic in expanding its physical development through direct intervention or Public-Private Partnership arrangements.
He emphasised that improved infrastructure would enhance learning, improve students’ welfare and accelerate the institution’s growth.
Dati specifically highlighted the need for adequate hostel accommodation, noting that proper residential facilities would create a conducive academic environment for students.
He also encouraged visitors at the event to inspect existing facilities within the institution to better appreciate areas requiring urgent development support.
The Plateau-born technocrat commended the Federal Government for establishing the Polytechnic and sustaining its growth through various interventions.
He also acknowledged the support of the government and people of Oyo State, as well as the host community, for providing a peaceful environment that supports academic activities.
He further expressed appreciation to the Convocation Guest Lecturer and Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, for supporting the construction of an access road to the institution, describing the project as one that would improve accessibility and boost socio-economic activities within the host community.
In his convocation address, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul‑Hameed, highlighted the institution’s achievements and growth since its establishment.
He described the convocation ceremony, which covered the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, as a historic milestone that symbolised academic excellence, resilience and the realisation of the institution’s vision.
The Rector expressed gratitude to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting technical education through federal government policies aimed at strengthening tertiary education.
He also commended the support of regulatory and funding agencies, including the National Board for Technical Education and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, for providing accreditation and infrastructure support that aided the institution’s rapid development.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed further acknowledged the contributions of the Governing Council, management, staff and host communities to the growth of the institution.
The Rector noted that access roads to the permanent site remained a major challenge but disclosed that construction of the Idi-Araba road had commenced with support from Dr. Adedeji.
He also revealed that the Polytechnic currently runs 13 National Diploma programmes across five academic schools, stressing that the institution focuses on technical, vocational and entrepreneurship education.
According to him, the graduands received vocational training certificates alongside academic qualifications to enhance employability and self-reliance.
Abdul-Hameed disclosed that a total of 325 students graduated during the combined convocation ceremony, comprising 138 graduates from the 2023/2024 academic session and 187 graduates from the 2024/2025 session.
He announced Miss Taiwo Ibukunoluwa Arinola and Mr. Olapese Quadri Ayofe as the overall best graduating students for the respective sessions.
As part of the convocation ceremony, fellowship awards were conferred on notable Nigerians: the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Dr. Zaxch Adedeji and Chairman of Spectrum Engineering Limited, Engr. Dr. Abubakar Isa.
