The Chairman of Anambra Beach Soccer Association, Prof. Victor Madubuko, has expressed the hope that the game will be included in school sports competitions.
Madubuko spoke at the closing of the four-day Nigeria Beach Soccer League in Nnewi, the industrial hub of Anambra, on Sunday
According to him, Beach Soccer has grown in popularity two years after the association was formed in the state.
He thanked the Anambra Government for promising to support the association in promoting the sport through the construction of beach soccer pitches in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
“The intention is that we will have beach soccer made part of school curriculum, so we are reaching out toa the Sports Commission to see how the game can become part of school sports,” Madubuko said.
The second round of Nigeria Beach Soccer League ended with four teams qualifying for the final round of the competition.
The top four teams were Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, Kada Beach Soccer Club, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club and Kebbi United Beach Soccer Club.
The teams will compete in the third and concluding round of the league, which will be held in Kaduna later this year.
The second round of the league took place at the Nnewi High School Beach Soccer pitch between May 15 and May 18.
Nmanko Patigi Beach Soccer Club and Jigawa Golden Stars Beach Soccer Club, which took part in the league, bowed out of the competition after failing to make it to the top four.
