The executive governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has announced a ₦10,000 monthly support payment for workers in Oyo State, to be paid over a period of three months as part of measures to cushion the effects of rising petrol and transportation costs.
The governor made the announcement on Monday during the supervision of the Youth Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme–Sustainable Access to Economic Relief (YEAP-SAfER) disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub.
“I’m happy to announce that all workers in Oyo State and the local government starting from April, at least for the first three months, will be given N10,000 in addition to their monthly salary as petrol/transportation support. All workers, everybody. It is a flat rate. Maybe it would be extended,” he said.
The YEAP-SAfER programme is being implemented in partnership with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Mastercard Foundation, aimed at supporting economic recovery and empowering residents through targeted financial interventions.
The recent surge in petrol prices in Nigeria is driven by the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran. The war has disrupted global oil supply routes, especially around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, pushing crude oil prices upward.
