Political class, clerics, among others, in Ogbomoso have extolled the good deeds of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alh. Abdul-Raheem Aremu Agunyanmole, who died eight days ago at the age of 79.
He was, until his demise, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogbomoso North local government area of Oyo State.
The lecturer at the 8th day fadau in honour of Alh. Agunyanmole in Ogbomoso, Sheikh Abdul-Waasihi Atayese, emphasised that the late politician was blessed with good deeds and other virtues.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, Dr Fatai Omotayo Buhari, said the role played by Agunyanmole in politics is immense and commendable.
He stated, “We have our leaders, beginning from Sen. Brimo Yemi Yusuf, and we are going to work on strategies to honour his good deeds. I can’t do anything without my leaders. We will work together.”
Among others, the matriarch of Alao-Akala dynasty and wife of the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Mrs Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, former senator representing Oyo North senatorial district, Brig. Gen. Yemi Yusuf (rtd.) and other chiftains of the party and followers of Alao-Akala, graced the occasion.
Alh. Agunyanmole was born on April 4, 1944 to the family of Baba Sangotola Aremu Olosun and Mama Ejide of Agunyanmole compound, Isale Ora, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Alhaji Agunyanmole joined partisan politics in 1966. His leaders in the party, then, Action Group were Alhaji R. A. Kalilu, Chief Nathaniel Agboola Adidi, Chief J. K. Atanda, Chief J. A. Ogunde and Chief S. A. Orunkotan.
It would be recalled that Agunyanmole held many positions in many political parties in his life time, beginning from 1976 when he started influencing party politics in, for instance, National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Social Democratic Party (SDP), United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), All Peoples Party (APP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the ruling APC. He was party chairman of most of the parties in his local government area.
In the main time, while addressing the attendees of the event, Sheikh Atayese, an international Islamic scholar, bemoaned the dual of worship of Allah/God and idols.
He advised Muslims to worship only God Almighty and distinguish themselves from idolatry.
Atayese advised, “It’s a known fact that idol worshippers or anybody who engage in the worship of both Allah and idols will not make heaven (al-Janat).
“The two are not equal at all. You choose one and ignore the other.”
