As Oyo State approaches a new political era, the question of succession has taken center stage. Recently, Governor Seyi Makinde, known for his foresight and bold leadership, was asked a pivotal question: Who succeeds you?
His response was simple yet powerful. He said his administration is full of capable hands ready to take Oyo to greater heights.
As a political observer, that statement instantly brought one name to mind: Hon. Segun Ebenezer Ogunwuyi, the current Chief of Staff to the Governor and the Otunba Mayeloye of Ijeru Kingdom.
Hon. Ogunwuyi’s journey through the Seyi Makinde administration has been nothing short of remarkable. He has served in key roles such as: Executive Assistant on Investment and Promotion; Director General, Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPPA); Chairman, Oyo State International Business Summit (London, 2023); Chairman, Transition & Inauguration Committee for Makinde’s second term.
And now, Hon. Ogunwuyi is the longest-serving Chief of Staff in the state’s history
He has also been a lawmaker at both the State and National Assemblies, bringing legislative experience into his executive roles.
Why Ogunwuyi stands out
His resume isn’t just filled with titles. Each position has been marked by concrete achievements and strategic contributions to the Makinde administration’s blueprint for a modern Oyo State. He has consistently shown proven capacity to deliver under pressure, deep understanding of the state’s development agenda; unwavering loyalty to the vision of a progressive Oyo.
These qualities make him not just a participant in the journey—but a builder of the road itself.
Oyo needs stability, not experiments
At a time when many Nigerian states struggle with leadership gaps and policy somersaults, continuity is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. The last thing Oyo needs is a reversal of the gains made in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and investment.
Hon. Ogunwuyi represents continuity. He understands the system, the stakeholders, and the expectations of the people. He is the steady hand that can ensure Oyo does not derail from its current path of growth.
A cap that fits
The Yoruba adage says, “He who the cap fits should wear it.” Hon. Ogunwuyi doesn’t just fit the cap; he has helped shape it. As we consider the next phase of leadership, we must look beyond political noise and recognize those who have earned their place through service and results.
Oyo deserves a leader who is ready from day one. A leader who has walked the corridors of policy and understands the weight of responsibility. That leader is Hon. Segun Ebenezer Ogunwuyi.
