
Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has awarded full scholarships to 1,000 students worth over ₦800,000 for each of them.
Speaking at the launch of the scholarship programme at Bayero University in Kano on Saturday, Barau said it it was aimed at addressing educational financial challenges faced by youths and provide them with access to quality education.
Barau who was reprsented by Sen. Sumaila Kawu, emphasised that education is his top priority, adding that the initiative reflects his commitment to securing Nigeria’s future through educated and empowered young people.
He urged the beneficiaries to seize the opportunity and reminded them that the scholarship is not just a financial assistance, but a call to service and excellence.
Kawu also supported each beneficiary with ₦20,000 as transport fare.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Atah, commended the initiative, calling it an exemplary act of public service and appealing to others to emulate the gesture.
The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Haruna Musa, who lauded the intervention, said the gesture was timely and transformative.
Two of the beneficiaries, Fathiyya Musa and Hauwa Abubakar Ibrahim, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) expressed gratitude and pledged to make the most use of the opportunity.
The News Agency of Nigera (NAN) reports that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, economic growth, and national security.
