The Federal Ministry of Finance, through its YouWin Department, has organised an entrepreneurship development training for students of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Academic), Mr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, welcomed the Ministry’s team and expressed the institution’s commitment to equipping students with practical entrepreneurial skills. He noted that the vision of the Polytechnic is to produce graduates who are not only employable but also capable of becoming employers of labour.
In his remarks, the Acting Director of the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED), Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori, urged students to seize the opportunity of the training. He advised them to integrate the knowledge gained with the numerous trainings and practical sessions already being offered at the Centre to strengthen their entrepreneurial capacity.
The leader of the Ministry’s team, Alhaji Mikaila Dauda, explained the importance of the YouWin initiative, stating that the Federal Government was intentional about building a generation of self-reliant youths who can create jobs rather than depend solely on government employment. He further revealed that books and resource materials would be distributed to students and other stakeholders to aid their entrepreneurial journey.
Another member of the delegation, Mr. AbdulRahaman Yahaya, delivered an interactive session on how to start, fund, and grow a business. While encouraging students to embrace resilience, he stated, “There is no elevator to success; you must take the stairs.”
The programme attracted large participation from students across various faculties of the institution, and many expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would help them start and grow their own ventures.
