The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, located in Ogbomoso zone of Oyo State has felicitated an ilustrous son of Ogbomoso and former military governor of both Ogun and Oyo states, Major Gen. Oladayo Popoola (rtd) on his 80th birth anniversary today.
The Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, in a statement by the institution’s protocols and public relations officer, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, said that the contributions of Maj. Gen. Popoola could not be quantified in the military and particularly his role on the development of the Ogbomosoland.
The statement which was made available to newsmen in Ogbomoso read in part: “Ogbomoso is, indeed, blessed with very many notable indigenes. One of them is Major Gen. Oladayo Popoola who incidentally served as the military governor of both Oyo and Ogun states.
“Ever since the establishment of our institution here in Ogbomoso, our father, Maj. Gen. Popoola and others have been of tremendous help to us. Through the Ogbomosoland Consultative Council (OCC), he has shouldered a lot of responsibilities towards the development of our Federal Polytechnic Ayede.
“So, on behalf of the Principal Officers, Management, staff, students and the general Poytechnic Community, I celebrate you and pray that Almighty God will continue to bless you with peace, good health, sound mind, long life and prosperity.
“What we have achieved as an institution is through the support that we receive from notable indigenes of Ogbomoso and the government.”
