The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, has congratulated the institution’s Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, on the successful completion of his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Peace and Development Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.
In a statement by the institution’s Acting Director of Information, Communication and Public Relations, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, the Rector described Dr. Ojo’s academic feat as “a remarkable achievement that reflects his dedication, perseverance, and passion for knowledge.”
Dr. Abdul-Hameed , who is a holder of two Doctorates and three Master’s Degrees, noted that the Deputy Rector’s scholarly pursuit continues to inspire staff and students of the young but fast-growing institution.
He said, “I want to sincerely, on behalf of the entire Polytechnic Community, conhratulate our very versatile Deputy Rector (Acadenic), Dr. Azeez Olasumkanmi Ojo, on his succesful defence of his doctoral thesis on Peace and Development Studies at the prestigious University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
“His erudition and commitment to the development of Federal Polytechnic Ayede are highly commendable. I, therefore, wish him more feats in life. Congratulations to the entire entire Polytechnic Community and his family in particular.”
Dr. Ojo, who serves as the pioneer Deputy Rector (Academic) of the Polytechnic, has over three decades of meritorious service in the Nigerian Polytechnic system at Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun before his secondment to Federal Polytechnic Ayede in 2022.
He began his academic journey at the then Obafemi Awolowo University (now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in English in 1987.
He later proceeded to the University of Ibadan for a Master of Communication Arts, and subsequently obtained another Master’s Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the same institution.
To deepen his expertise in the field, he pursued and earned yet another Master’s Degree in Peace and Development Studies from the University of Ilorin, before completing his PhD in Peace Journalism, with a focus on news framing of security challenges.
Dr. Ojo started his career at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, where he served for over 30 years and rose through the ranks from Lecturer III to Chief Lecturer in the Department of General Studies.
At the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, where he currently serves, Dr. Ojo has contributed immensely to the institution’s growth, serving in several capacities including Head, Department of General Studies; Dean, School of Management Sciences, before his appointment as Deputy Rector (Academic).
He served on strategic committees of the Governing Council, Academic Board (AB), Management, anong others.
The Rector commended Dr. Ojo for his commitment to academic excellence and institutional development, describing him as “a shining example of hard work and intellectual pursuit whose achievements will continue to motivate others in the academic community.”
