The Management of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State has vowed to give maximum supports for sporting activities in the institution, just as it also approved Wednesdays as sports days beginning from 12:00 p.m.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, stated this at a luncheon organised in honour of the institution’s contingents who participated in the just concluded National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)/Nigerian Polytechnic Senior Staff Games Association (NIPOSSGA) competitions which held at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The feast, which held at the Council Chamber of the institution, also featured goodwill messages from Registrar, Mr Akin Odesola; the Bursar, Mrs. Rashidat Titilola Oladepo; the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi; representative of the Deans, Dr. Muftau Oyewale Akintunde; representative of the Directors, Mr. Gafar Kolapo Olatinwo.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Polytechnic Sports Committee, Mr. Bashiru Bello, who had thanked the Rector and the Management for their supports before, during and after the games, also charged the Management not to relent in their efforts on sports development.
He also lauded the significant contributions of the participants at the competitions which featured different games.
At the event, the Director of Academic Planning (DAP), Dr Muftau Akintunde, had informed the Management on the proposal to observe sporting activities from 12:00 p.m. of every Wednesday and sought the approval of the Rector.
While thanking the Management and the Sports Committee of the institution led by Mr Bashiru Bello, Dr. Abdul-Hameed, who spontaneously approved the request, said the Management would do everything possible to give maximum supports to the sporting activities.
A statement by the institution’s Protocols and Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Adepoju, quoted Dr. Abdul-Hameed saying, “This is a great day as we are gathered here to celebrate our contingents who partook at the recently concluded NBTE/NIPOSSGA Games 2023 that was held at the North Campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
“It wasn’t just a debut for our participants at the games; it is noteworthy that our contingents went there and won medals for us and to God be the glory.
“Going by the request of the Director of Academic Planning, Dr M. O. Akintunde, and that of Mr Bashiru Bello, I hereby, on behalf of the Management, approve Wednesdays, particularly from 12:00 p.m. for sporting activities.
“We will give maximum support for the Sports Committee and their activities. No matter how small it is, we will see to the promotion of sports in the system. Let me commend the Coordinator of the Sports Committee, Mr Bashiru Bello, the entire Committee and our contingents who went to Ibadan for a job well done. We never knew we would get medals.
“So, I want to congratulate all our contingents for making us proud as worthy ambassadors of the new Polytechnic. The next two years when we shall be having another games, we will have been fully equipped and positioned to do more exploits in the sporting activities.”
