The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State has commenced lectures and other academic activities for the 2022/2023 session.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr Samuel Oke Ogunniyi, charged the staff to be committed to their duties and encouraged the students to be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic.
Speaking at the official commencement of the lectures, the first of its kind in the history of the Polytechnic yesterday, the Rector, Engr Dr Abdul-Hameed, charged every stakeholder to work tirelessly to develop the new institution, adding that the students should remain committed to their studies and imbibe moral uprightness.
Established about two years ago by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration along with five others, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) granted the Polytechnic an approval to commence four programmes at its take-off site in Iresa Pupa as follows: Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Science Laboratory Technology and Statistics.
A statement signed by the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Adepoju, and made available to newsmen quoted Dr Ogunniyi saying, “On behalf of the Rector, Engr Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, I thank everybody present, including students and parents, for coming. Today’s event is very historic one in the annals of history of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede because we are here for the opening of lectures for our maiden academic session, which 2022/2023.
“We want to appreciate the Governing Council, led by Prof. Dakas C. J. Dakas SAN; Principal Officers; Deans; Directors; Heads of Departments and Units as well as other staff.
“Let me also encourage the students to be serious and studious. They should face their academics squarely. We want to produce employable graduates that will be relevant in the society and meet up with the spirit and letters of our Institution’s motto: ‘learning, dexterity and morals’.
“So, on behalf of the Rector, I hereby declare lectures opened for 2022/2023 academic session in the name of the Almighty God and for the service of humanity.”
Commending the tenacity of the Rector, the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Mr Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, stressed that among the six federal polytechnics that were created two years ago, only Federal Polytechnic, Ayede has invited the NBTE for Resource Inspection and thereafter granted approval to commence academic activities.
He added that the Rector and other Principal Officers have worked tirelessly to ensure that students are admitted, saying, “Now that we have admitted our pioneer students, we are now complete as an higher institution.
“We will continue to support the beautiful ideas of our Rector and his resoluteness to ensure that the Polytechnic succeeds in fulfilling the objectives for which it was established.
“On behalf of the Committee of Deans, I promise our unalloyed commitment to the tasks ahead of us.”
Present at the occasion were the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mr Akin Odesola; the Bursar of the Institution, Alhaja Rasheedat Titilola Oladepo; Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Musbau Afolabi; parents; other members of staff and parents.
