Rector Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, has underscored the importance of the new admission benchmark of 18 years into all higher institutions of leanings in the country as recently announced by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Dr. Taofeek, while speaking as a guest on a radio programme on Prince 89.7 FM, Ibadan, on Saturday, said the new benchmark will bring sanity to education sector in Nigeria.
He said anyone who is conversant with education curriculum of 2013 will not be shocked at the new policy of the Jamb.
Commenting on what Senator Shehu Sanni said on the new policy, the Rector said though there could be exceptional cases to that effect, but age is a good requisite for admission in Nigeria.
He noted that a student is expected to be mature and be in a good state of mind before he can be given admission, which he said jamb has done
Speaking further, the rector said the new admission system will enable good education and career plans in Nigeria University system,thereby creating rooms for equal opportunity
Engineer Dr Adekunle while speaking on the state of things on the dichotomy between HND and Bsc holders said efforts are on top gear to pass the bill to remove the dichotomy whereby the two certificate holders will be unanimously recognized everywhere in the country.
He said president Bola Tinubu will hopefully sign the bill soon.
He noted further that the students loans in which the federal government has begun disbursement for will help students in various higher institutions in Nigeria
Dr. Taofeek said the institution has been given more courses to be operational in the institution which will take effect in the next academic session.
He said this is in line with the motor of the school dexterity and learning, urging secondary school leavers in and outside Oyo state to choose the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso as their preferred polytechnic for sound academic leaning to be entrepreneurially independent
He noted that the federal Polytechnic Ayede, is poised in pursuing its mission and vision of producing students with entrepreneurial skills and employers of labours
