The event, held within the institution’s TETFund 250-Seater Auditorium, witnessed active participation from academic and non-academic staff of the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, the Deputy Rector (Academic), Mr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, reiterated the commitment of the Polytechnic Management to the development and capacity building of its staff.
He noted that the presence and active participation of staff in such programmes are vital to the institution’s academic growth and overall success.
He emphasised the significance of the seminar and encouraged staff members to take full advantage of the opportunity with a view to improving their research and scholarly writing skills.
“This is an opportunity brought to your doorstep by the School of Engineering Technology. Make the best use of it,” he said.
The seminar was facilitated by the Acting Dean of the School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Jacob Oluwafemi Ayangbekun, who delivered an insightful lecture on the nitty-gritty of academic paper priting.
In his presentation, Engr. Ayangbekun dissected the components of a well-written academic paper, stressing the importance of originality, proper referencing, and adequate preparation.
He warned against plagiarism, describing it as a serious academic offence that undermines the integrity of research.
Furthermore, he cautioned against excessive reliance on artificial intelligence tools, urging researchers to develop independent thinking and in-depth understanding of their research subjects.
“Good research must be the product of adequate preparation, critical thought, and originality. While technology can be a support tool, it should not replace the researcher’s intellectual effort,” he advised.
Present at the seminar were the Deputy Rector (Academic), Mr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo; Director of Academic Planning, Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) T.M. Adepoju; Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi, represented by Mr. Dare Adeleke; and Mr. Samuel Adewole, among other staff members.
