As part of her effort in promoting the town and gown relationship, the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State has organised a-day workshop dubbed “Entrepreneurial Skills Workshop for Rural Community to Promote the Town and Gown Relationship” for about 40 youths in Iresa-Pupa community.
The workshop was organised by the institution’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED) under the headship of Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori, on behalf of the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed..
While welcoming the participants at the workshop at the event held at the Flour Mills Building of the institution’s temporary site, Iresa-Pupa, on Monday, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, said the Polytechnic is delivering her mandate of connecting the town and gown, adding that it is the responsibility of tertiary institutions to embark on mutually beneficial relationships between the two divides.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed added that the training was meant to honour and recognise what he called the gigantic and development effort of the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Moses Olayiwola JP, Ajiboye III in and around the Polytechnic.
He said, “We are trying to strengthen the relationship between the town and the gown. Anywhere there is a higher institution of learning, it is expected that there must smooth relationship between the town and the gown. There should be mutual benefits.
“With every sense of sincerely, I want to commend Iresa-Pupa comnunity under the leadership of our father, Oba Moses Olayiwola JP, Ajiboye III. Under his leadership, we have witnessing peace and progress. Every second of his life, he is interested in seeing to our success. God will continue strengthening him for us.
“I want to publicly commend the Director of CSAED, Mr. Owojori, for a job well done. He has done a lot for the instutution. When he attended programmes in Abuja, wẹ got favourable feedback from Abuja and this commendable.
“Thank you m, our participants. So, on behalf of our Governing Council, Management, Academic Board, staff and students, I want to welcome our Kaabiesi and the Aresa-Pupa-in-Counci as well as all the participants to this great event.”
Dr. Abdul-Hameed, a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) emphasised that the commitment of Oba Olayiwola is commendable, ranging from facilitation of building projects, among other intervention.
In his remark, Oba Olayiwola thanked the Management and the CSAED for the honour and for training Iresa-Pupa youths on skills development.
The workshop featured three lectures handled by Dr. Saheed Shittu, Head, Department of Accountancy; Dr. Idomi Abdulfatai Ishola of the Department of Business Administration and Management as well as Mr. Oluwaseun Christopher Owojori, Director, CSAED, all of Federal Polytechnic Ayede.
