It was amidst fanfare and eulogies that Royal Kids International Nursery and Primary School celebrated the 30th anniversary of the elementary institution in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Officially opened on September 7, 1992, the school is one of the leading elementary schools in Ogbomoso and its environs, having trained and nurtured thousands of alumni who have passed through it, beginning from 1992.
It now has pre-nursery, primary and secondary schools located at Odo Alalubosa, Merit/Alalubosa and Yaku areas of Ogbomoso respectively.
Beginnig from Monday, the school had visited Kersey Children Home, organised quiz among neighbouring schools, organised novelty match, staged health talk for parents of the legendary citadel of learning, and crowned by the grand finale that held today, Saturday, September 3, at Caretaker Baptist Church, Odokoto area, Ogbomoso.
In her speech, the Proprietress, Mrs Deborah Oyedeji, thanked all the stakeholders: pupils, teachers, parents, her immediate family, ministers of God, invited guests, neighbouring schools, the political class, especially children of late Adebayo Alao-Akala, Olamide and Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala as well as their entourage.
Thanking God for the achievements made by the school, Mrs Oyedeji, whose 84th birth anniversary was yesterday (Friday), said, “in all of these achievements, glory and fame that have been copiously shared here today, I see myself as a mere steward God’s legacy entrusted unto my care which, of course, I will account for, the same way everybody will do.”
Speakers after speakers extolled the virtues of discipline, hard work, thoroughness, dedication, and so on for which she is known.
In his lecture, the guest speaker who is a senior lecturer at the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, Dr Olaolu Adekola, lauded the giant strides of Mrs Oyedeji in educational development.
Speaking on the theme “30 years of moral and academic success and the challenges of sustaining the legacy”, Dr Adekola decried that morality is lacking in most societies nowadays.
He said, “Evidently, this generation has no value for moral uprightness, and academic success is not in their thinking as almost everyone wants to cut corners and get rich quickly without the required hard work.
“The youths want products without without the necessary process as the concept of omoluabi has been thrown into the dust bin. Therefore, when one sees a school like this that is keeping the standard when many others have lost their vision, one should encourage such a school to do better.”
Dr Adekola noted that sustaining the legacy of academic success and moral rectitude is very difficult, though not unachievable.
Ha added that many schools that were known for moral and academic success have reneged and now living in the past glory.
Suggesting how to sustain the legacy of moral and academic success, Dr Adekola said, “The school must maintain discipline among the teachers and pupils/students. The school must maintain faithful staff as it is evident here today. There is a need for training and re-training on moral rectitude, academics and on ICTs. I enjoin the school to keep hope alive.
The Alumni Association of the school was inaugurated, and was was coordinated by a lecturer at Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Dr (Pastor) Samuel Akanbi.
The old pupils of the school presented a playlet to mimick the hard work, discipline, moral rectitude, among others, that characterise Mrs Oyedeji’s life as a proprietress. There was a choir presentation, made up of teachers and some ex-pupils of the school.
