The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, has reaffirmed his commitment to the continued development of the institution, pledging to work for its progress until the final moment of his tenure and even beyond.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed, whose tenure as Rector ends this weekend, made the pledge while receiving representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education who visited the institution to assess facilities at the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative.
The Rector said his passion for the growth of the polytechnic would not wane even after leaving office.
“I will work till my last minute in office and beyond. Even if I see anything that will aid the development of the institution after I have left office, I will not hesitate to do the needful,” he said.
He added that when individuals are passionate about their responsibilities, they may not readily realise the extent of their achievements until others draw their attention to them.
According to him, a recent survey conducted by a consultant to the Federal Ministry of Education ranked Federal Polytechnic Ayede as the seventh best tertiary institution in Nigeria.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed noted that although the institution’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development might not yet be where the institution desires it to be, the Management remains committed to continuous improvement.
“Since you have gone round to inspect our facilities at the centre, we may not yet be where you want us to be, but we are ready to forge ahead. By the time you visit again, we shall be better than where you left us,” he assured.
The Rector also charged the Director of the Centre, Mr. Christopher Owojori, to take note of the areas of improvement identified by the visiting team and advise Management accordingly on the necessary steps to strengthen the centre.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Gbenga Segun Abejide, commended the management of Federal Polytechnic Ayede for the warm reception accorded the team and praised the institution for securing accreditation for all its academic programmes.
Mr. Abejide, who was accompanied by Mrs. Aimiebenomo Jemima and Mr. Ideho Johnpaul, observed that although the training facilities of the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development are presently spread across various communities in Ogbomoso, the arrangement reflects the value the host community places on education.
The Rector also appreciated the Director, Department of Technology and Science Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Muyibat Adenike Olodo, for the ministry’s continued support and contributions to the development of the institution.
Among those present during the visit were the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo; the Bursar, Alhaja Rasheedat Oladepo; Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi; the Director of the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Christopher Owojori; Coordinator of Management Information System (MIS), Engr.
