The wrap up of the week-long 16th Convocation Ceremonies of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, which commenced last week held, today, at the institution.
The occasion during which the State Governor and Visitor to the institution, Engr. Seyi Makinde, was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Soliu Adelabu, held between 10 :00am and 2:00pm at the Great Hall, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.
Speaking at the event, Gov. Makinde, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, congratulated the university and the graduands on the attainment.
He said, “I congratulate you, the graduands and the university. You’re the number one of the wise men and women in your various communities. It’s an addition to human capital development and you have got the right education here.
“I heard the Pro-Chancellor mention internationalisation of LAUTECH and it is in the agenda of Oyo State Government to attain such.”
Makinde said investment in education is in the blueprint of the present day government, roadmap to sustainable development.
He said innovation, creativity and technology remain the watchword of the state government.
“So, while congratulating you on this accomplishments, you should be very responsible to humanity in Nigeria and the world at large. You can still remain in your comfort zones and continue to add value to the humanity. You have come to one of the best universities in the world and not just in Nigeria,” Makinde added.
Highlights of the events included awards of postgraduate diplomas and higher degrees while it climaxed with the award of two honorary doctorate degrees in civil law and technology respectively, to Barrister Ahmed Adeniyi Raji (SAN), and Engr. Yinka Ayoola Ajao (FNSE).
Dignitaries at the day’s event included: Senator Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation; Chairman, Governing Council of LAUTECH, Professor Ayodeji Omole and other members of the Council; former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Professor Adeolu Akande; former Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Olarewaju Nassar were also there.
Royal fathers at the ceremony were Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III; Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola; Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi, among others
Other dignitaries included Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Professor Josiah Segun Ajiboye; and Vice-Chancellors as well as Registrars of some notable universities
Also at the ceremony, among others, were Hon. Shina Peller; Executive Director at Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Engr. Lekan Badmus.
On the rumor, however, that a student got killed on campus at the occasion, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Lekan Fadeyi, said no such issue happened.
According to him, information from town was that some people got engaged at a night club, far from the university premises, during which one of them got killed.
He added that the convocation, witnessed by the aforementioned highly respected individuals, would not have held if there was a fracas.
