The best graduating student at the ongoing 16th convocation and prize giving of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Mr Ololade Israel Oladoja, has said that he cultivated the habit of reading for about seven hours daily, adding that such reading and the grace of God contributed to the achievement.
Oladoja of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, who emerged the overall best student among 8,533 students with the CGPA of 4.86, said that dedication, focus and determination helped him in attaining the feat.
He stated that, at 100 level, he never planned for graduating as the overall best graduating student of the institution.
Oladoja, whose name reverberated at the The Great Hall, venue of the convocation, received many prizes from the institution and various donors.
Oladoja said, “I am very delighted to have had the grace of being the overall best graduating student at the 16th convocation ceremony. I thank those who have presented various awards to me. And this will actually serve as motivation for other present students to be very serious with their academics. God was at the centre of it all.
“The truth of the matter is that I did not really target anything towards emerging as the overall best student. At 100 level, only thought towards graduating with a first class, not actually being the overall best student. In 100 level, my result was 4.7 and still lower than other students’ who were also on first class. I don’t like studying at night. I studied around 8p.m. to 12a.m so that I could wake up 4a.m. again to start reading. So, I can say I read for about 7 hours.
“My word for the present students is that they should work towards their goals in order to achieve their potential.”
Oladoja also thanked his parents whom he described as the pillars of support from ab intio. He, therefore, prayed that Almighty God will make them reap the fruit if their hard labour on me.
