Two outstanding students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State have emerged the winners of the grand finale of the 2024 National Orientation Agency (NOA) “7 for 7 National Values Charter Campus Debate and Capacity Building Conference.
Pannigeriannews.com reports that many tertiary institutions of learning across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria had participated at the preliminary stage where LAUTECH emerged the first in the South-West, defeating other institutions, including University of Ibadan at a competition held at Julius Berger Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos, Nigeria, winning a prize of N5,000,000.00.
On November 22, 2024, LAITECH qualified for the grand finale to represent the South-West geo-political zone of the country.
Today, from LAUTECH, Adekunle Ayomide of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Oladeji Olushina of Medicine and Surgery Department representing the South-West defeated other five zones, clinched the coveted trophy and won a whooping prize of N20,000,000.00.
The grand finale which held today at Marriot Hotel, 122, Joel Ogunnike Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, also had Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria representing North-West; North-Central, University of Ilorin; North-East, Gombe State University; South-South, Ignatus Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt; South-East, Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu.
At the debate on the topic “Criticising and Dissenting Peacefully While Maintaining Love for One’s Country”, LAUTECH representives were adgudged by the general public to have displayed exceptional brilliance in handling the theme.
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the University of Ilorin emerged first and second runners-up respectively.
Courtesy of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, LAUTECH also received an additional N1million.
It is recalled that LAUTECH has been reputed for its string of firsts as the Best State University and Best University of Technology in Nigeria, among others.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Student of Affairs of LAUTECH, Dr. Adewusi John Adepoju of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, LAUTECH, has congratulated the institution and its representatives at the competition on what he called the brilliant performance, exceptional mastery and articulation on the part of the representatives.
Adepoju said, “I want to sincerely congratulate our dear Vice Chancellor, Prof. Razaq Olatunde ROM Kalilu; other Principal Officers; Provosts and Deans; Directors; Heads of Departments and Units; Staff and the entire Students on this milestone.
“I will also like to congratulate the entire team and coaches that contributed tirelessly in the effort which culminated this feat.
“This remarkable achievement is our humble achievement and I beseech other students to emulate this and engage in activities that promote the excellence for which LAUTECH is reputed.”
