The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ogbomoso has condemned, in entirety, the recent killing of a corps member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) around the Under G area of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
The killing of the serving corps member, Damilola Iyanda, identified as a graduate if Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, occurred on the 24th April, 2024 during a fight which ensued between a graduand at the 16th convocation of LAUTECH at Replay Club at Under G axis where a stray bullet, allegedly shot by one police operative popularly called Saheed SARS, hit him and died immediately
Pannigeriannews.com reports that the diseased had visited LAUTECH with a view to felicitating his brother at LAUTECH’s 16th convocation which held recently.
It is also reported his brother was hit in the hand sustained injury.
The NBA, through Barrister Omotayo Olatunbosun, said, “We, the NBA Ogbomoso, condemned in totality the reckless act of a police officer a.k.a saheed Sars.
“While we are yet to hear from the police officer himself, the information we received was that he was asked to intervene in a fight and he had no reason whatsoever to use gun which led to the untimely death of Damilola Iyanda and the injury sustained by the deceased younger brother, Oluwafemi.
“Whatever the provocation might be, the force the police officer applied was illegal and that not being the first time the same officer was committing such act within ogbomoso, we the NBA Ogbomoso branch are looking into all the allegations made against the police officer and his team and we are taking necessary steps to ensure that such bad occurrence will not happen again.
“While we sympathise with the family of the deceased and pray that God will console the entire family and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
