As part of efforts to commence academic activities at the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, the National Directorate of Employment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the institution on Friday, where a facility of the directorate was temporarily donated to the Polytechnic.
For the institution to start admitting students, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will visit the Polytechnic with a view to inspecting the existing facilities next week.
Speaking in Onipaanu, along Iresa Pupa, Surulere local government area of Oyo State, the NDE’s Director of Vocational Skills Development (VSD) from Abuja, Alhaji Issa Abdul, assured the institution of fruitful collaboration, noting that the facility would be of tremendous use for the institution.
Alhaji Abdul said, “We will work together with you to achieve the lofty goals of your institution. We are assuring you of our collaboration as outlined in the MoU.”
The NDE facility in Onipaanu contains administrative building with offices, lecture rooms and hostels.
Speaking at the event yesterday, the Rector of the institution, Dr Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, who was represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr Samuel Ogunniyi, thanked the directorate for its magnanimity in releasing the facility for the institution’s use.
He said, “On behalf of the Chairman of our Governing Council, Prof. Dakas C.J. Dakas (SAN), other members of the Council, the management team and staff of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, we want to thank God for what the Ministry of Labour and Employment has done for us, especially the Minister of State, Mr Festus Keyamo, that has graciously released the NDE facility for our Polytechnic.
“We have offices and classrooms here for two departments: Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism as well as Agricultural Technology.
“The facility is not only for resource inspection but also for teaching and learning in the Polytechnic.
“So, the facility will be part of the resources that will be showcased to the NBTE next week. That will enable us start our programmes in earnest between December 2022 and January 2023.”
At the event were the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr Akin Odesola; Personal Assistant to the Rector on Academics and Administration, Mr Azeez Ojo; Director of Academic Planning, Dr Mutairu Akintunde; Dean of Schools of Agricultural Technology and Engineering Technology, Dr (Mrs) T. M. Adepoju; Dean of School of Environmental Technology among others.
Also on the entourage of Alhaji Abdul were the representatives from Kwara and Oyo state chapters of the NDE.
Those from Oyo included: State Director, Mrs Oluyemi Olayinka; Assistant Director, Engr P. I. Ilori; Legal Officer, Barrister Bashirat Omar; Victor Osungbohun and Mr Kazeem Olayiwola.
Others were Kwara State Director, Engr Timothy Aba; Head of Vocational Skills Deparment (VSD), Mr Najeem Fagbemi; Information Officer, Mr Ibrahim Adamu and Mr Adekunle Faseyi.
After the event, the NDE and Polytechnic teams visited a former senator representing Oyo Central senatorial district, Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, who facilitated the NDE branch years ago in his Onipaanu residence, where the Aresa Pupa of Iresa Pupa, Oba Ajiboye Olayiwola, coincidentally was seated.
