A renowned Islamic scholar, Dr. Daud Amoo Alaga, has canvassed demonetisation of the Nigerian politics.
Dr. Alaga, Missionary Officer of the Oyo State Muslim Community, decried that over-monetisation of the Nigerian politics has constituted a bane in the country’s development and also tasked both the leaders and followers to be godly and embrace the teachings of the Prophets.
Alaga expressed the concerns recently while speaking to Pannigeriannews.com in Ogbomoso during a visit to Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, Surulere local government area of Oyo State.
He recommended that politics should be made part-time and unattractive as a panacea to the lingering leadership challenge.
“You cannot similarise what happened in the past with what obtains now. In the past, Nigerian leadership and followership were more godly, unlike what is currently happening.
“The Nigerian politics will remain as it is now except the system is demonetised. There is a lot of money in our politics.
“Honestly, all these hanky-panky and abracadabra will continue to be the order of the day.
“It should rather be on part-time arrangement for the National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly, and so on,” he said.
Dr. Alaga, a retired staff of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, added that over-monetisation of the country’s politics is responsible for killings and other heinous practices in the polity.
Alaga said, “I am a prophet of doom. The system is not likely to change except politics is absolutely demonitised.”
