The National Council of Sports has approved new measures to strengthen insurance protection for athletes and streamline national sporting events.
The decisions were reached at the Council’s meeting held on Friday at the Kashim Shettima Hall, State Library Complex, Calabar, Cross River State.
According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the Council emphasised the growing importance of managing emerging risks in sports and the need for adequate insurance coverage for athletes, officials and sports facilities during national competitions.
In the communiqué, the council stressed that improved insurance protection has become vital to safeguarding participants and preserving the integrity of sporting events nationwide.
The Council also approved the reduction in the number of sports to be featured at the National Sports Festival, directing the National Sports Commission, working with the National Sports Federations and the Forum of State Directors of Sports, to begin implementing the decision.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from across the country to review policies and chart strategies for strengthening sports administration.
The resolutions, the Council noted, reflect its commitment to enhancing safety standards, improving efficiency and reinforcing the overall framework for sports development in Nigeria.
