The National Sports Commission (NSC) has embarked on a massive mobilisation drive for Nigerian supporters, both at home and abroad, ahead the Super Eagles’ crucial FIFA World Cup playoff clash against Gabon scheduled for Thursday in Rabat, Morocco.
According to the NSC, the move is aimed at ensuring that the Super Eagles receive overwhelming support at the stadium throughout the encounter.
The leadership of the Commission, led by Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has made extensive logistical arrangements to sponsor members of various Nigerian supporters’ clubs to Morocco.
The Commission also revealed that efforts have been made to engage and mobilise members of the Nigerian community across Morocco to turn out in large numbers for the all-important fixture.
Speaking on the development, the Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, emphasised the importance of the initiative, noting that passionate support from the stands often serves as a morale booster for the team.
“We have one of the best supporters’ clubs in the world, and throughout the Super Eagles’ success stories over the years, the supporters have always been the team’s 12th player — from the days of the Green Eagles to the Super Eagles,” Olopade said.
“Their presence at the stadium cannot be overemphasised, especially during this crucial playoff. We have also provided adequate logistical support to enable members of the Nigerian community in Morocco to attend the match in large numbers. With their turnout, we intend to make the stadium atmosphere highly supportive and intimidating for the Gabonese.”
Meanwhile, the Interim Chairman of the Unified Nigeria Supporters Club, Prince Vincent Okumagba, commended the NSC for its proactive role in ensuring massive support for the Super Eagles.
“We must commend Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade for their remarkable understanding and support. They truly grasp the language of sports and recognise the importance of uniting all Nigerians behind the Super Eagles. With this level of collaboration, we are confident that Nigeria will secure the World Cup ticket,” Okumagba stated.
Olapade reiterated that the mobilisation effort underscores the Commission’s commitment to rallying national support for the team.
He added that the NSC will continue to strengthen partnerships with supporters’ groups and the Nigerian community abroad to ensure the Super Eagles enjoy maximum encouragement in their quest for qualification.
