
As part of activities marking the 2025 International Youth Day (IYD) commemoration, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogbomoso zonal chapter has held her annual public lecture and award presentation.
The event, which took place at Ogbomoso Recreation Club, also featured the presentation of awards of honour to distinguished personalities who have consistently supported youth-oriented projects across Ogbomosoland.

Among those honoured were the Chief Executive Officer of Tulcan Energy, Dr. Tayo Adiatu; ace businessman and politician, Alhaji Noah Bello.
Also among the awardees were the Director of Education and Social Services, Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Bello; Director of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations (CICPR), Mr. Sunday Adepoju; Zonal Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Mathew Afolabi Oyewusi; Secretary of NYCN Ogbomoso Zone, Comrade Oyeyemi Ganiyu; Zonal Public Relations Officer, Comrade Stephen Blessing Odetunde; Zonal Social Secretary, Comrade Damilola Segun Olaniyan who was also recently honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a National Honour.

In his lecture woven around the IYD theme “Local Youth Action for the SDGs and Beyond”, the guest speaker, Dr. Wale Aremu of the Department of Pure and Applied Physics, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, enjoined Nigerian youths to take local actions towards attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stressing that meaningful change begins within communities before extending globally.

The Zonal Chairman Comrade Mathew Afolabi Oyewusi, in his address appreciated all stakeholders who had supported the administration and youth project in the past four years of his administration.
Comrade Oyewusi equally used the medium to highlight some of the key actions/achievements of the administration which included Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building,
Advocacy and Civic Engagement, Commemoration of IYD Annual Events,
Partnerships and Community Impact,
Institutional Strengthening.

“Today is special to me for more than one reason. Not only are we gathered to celebrate the creativity, resilience, and drive of young people in our communities.
“It also marks the last time I will stand before you as the Zonal Chairman of this great Council. It is a bittersweet moment. But above all, I am immensely grateful.

“Over the past four years, this Council has grown stronger, more vibrant, and more impactful. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering commitment from members, stakeholders, and partners, we have recorded landmark achievements.

“Permit me to highlight a few: Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building, Advocacy & Civic Engagement, Commemoration of IYD Annual Events, Partnerships and Community Impact, Institutional Strengthening”, Comr. Oyewusi stated.
Highlight of the day included a panel session constituted by Barrister Tolulope Oguntade; Dr. O. T. Ogunbode of the Department of History, LAUTECH; Prince Muhammed Atolagbe of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Mr. AbdulAzeez Aremu, C.E.O of CREDIG Hub, Ogbomoso.

The highlights also included ceremonial parade and various engaging youth activities, all aimed at inspiring collective responsibility and reinforcing the importance of youth participation in nation-building.
