The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogbomoso Zone, has expressed grief over the recent spate of fatal road accidents in Ogbomoso, especially around the Takie Roundabout, describing the area as a “death trap” that demands urgent government intervention.
In a statement signed by the Zonal Chairman, Comrade Saheed Taiwo, and the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Alaba Marvelous, the council lamented that the frequent accidents in the area had claimed several lives and left many families in mourning.
The youth body commiserated with the bereaved families and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the incidents.
It called on the Oyo State Government, the Ogbomoso North Local Government, and relevant agencies — including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) — to urgently address the structural and traffic challenges at the Takie Roundabout.
The group recommended redesigning the roundabout, installing proper road signs and speed breakers, improving street lighting, and ensuring consistent enforcement of traffic regulations. It also urged the Federal Government to expedite the completion of the Oyo–Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway to ease traffic pressure and enhance safety in the area.
Reaffirming its commitment to road safety and community wellbeing, the NYCN said it was ready to partner with government and stakeholders to make Ogbomoso roads safer for all road users.
