Activities marking the much-anticipated maiden edition of Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival are set to begin tomorrow, December 19, 2024.
The five-day event, which will run until December 23, aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Ogbomosoland foster economic growth and unity.
Prince Williams Adeleye, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, revealed in a statement that the carnival will attract a host of dignitaries, including the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde; the Minister of Arts, Culture, Touris and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musawa; top government officials; tourism enthusiasts; indigenous clubs and associations; as well as other key stakeholders.
The carnival, a significant component of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, Soun of Ogbomosoland’s 25-year development agenda, promises a variety of activities.
Highlights include traditional displays of local cuisine, captivating performances of traditional dances, and a showcase of Ogbomoso’s iconic masquerades.
According to Adeleye, the event highlights are as follows:
Day 1 (December 19): The opening ceremony.
Day 2 (December 20): Installation of the Araba Oluawo of Ogbomosoland, Odun Oole, and a special Jumat service at the palace.
Day 3 (December 21): Sporting activities.
Day 4 (December 22): First-year thanksgiving and special prayers for Oba Olaoye at the Ogbomoso Baptist Conference Centre.
Day 5 (December 23): The grand finale at the Ogbomoso Township Stadium.
Prince Adeleye assured participants that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of local and foreign tourists as well as indigenes attending the carnival.
“The Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival promises to be a memorable celebration of culture, unity, and progress.” He added.
