A mathematics teacher at Adeniran Memorial Grammar School, (AMGS), Ogbomoso, Mr. Adegoke Isaiah Akanmu, has emerged as one of the best three mathematics teachers in Oyo state.
The three award winning teachers from each of the three senatorial districts in the state were honoured on Monday by the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Segun Olayiwola, at a ceremony in his office.
While Mr. Akanmu emerged best mathematics teacher in Oyo North senatorial district, comprising 13 local Government Area, Mr. Aikomo Olumide and Mr. Yusuf Idowu, emerged in Oyo Central and Oyo South respectively.
The award was conferred by the Oyo State Government in conjunction with a non-governmental organisation, My Unsung Hero Foundation.
The awardees were each given letter of conferment, cash awards and other packages.
Providing the justification for their selection the letter of invite to the award ceremony titled, “Invitation to award ceremony in honour of outstanding mathematics teachers,” and signed by Mrs. B.C. Abiodun (Director, Mathematics & Technical Department) on behalf of the Commissioner, states, “It is with great admiration and appreciation that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Oyo State extends this formal invitation to you in recognition of your exceptional dedication and unwavering commitment to the teaching of Mathematics.”
ogbomosoinsightonline.com learned that the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) played a role in the emergence of the winners as the association was contacted. “So, MAN conducted screenings, looked at individuals’ involvement in school activities, promotion of mathematical related matters, teaching skills and Mathematics Olympiad activities etc at the local, zonal, state and national levels.”
Mr. Akanmu who joined the Oyo State Post Primary School Teaching Service Commission TESCOM in 2010, informed he had been involved in MAN’s activities since 2013 from local to national level.
MAN, Oyo state branch in a statement celebrating the awardees, signed by its chairman, Dr Olosunde G.R and secretary, Mr Oyewole K.K., noted, “The Executive and entire members of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Oyo State Branch) proudly celebrate three (3) of our distinguished members Mr. Yusuf M. I., Mr. Aikomo O. M., and Mr. Akanmu I. A, who have been honoured with the prestigious Best Mathematics Teacher Award in Oyo State.

Also, Principal of his school, Mrs. Grace Alamu, submitted, “Congratulations! You do me proud gidigidi, I call you my ‘Best Teacher ‘ and my ‘4-MAN’. If Oyo State Government can notice and identify you as one of the Best Mathematics Teachers in the State, it means God had been recording your hardwork, relentlessness, faithfulness and commitment.
“Let me stop here because words are not enough for me to describe you as you are pictorially inscribed on my mind.
“Isaiah, like I normally call you. I am proud of you.”
Mrs. Alamu added, “Hardwork pays. Let us emulate Mr Isaiah Akanmu He is my ‘4-MAN’. God is compensating him. The joy has just begun. Jesus is the only rewarder, who will reward us individually, whether the head notices or not.”
Akanmu, a native of Ogbomoso, bagged Economics/Mathematics Certificate at Kwara State College of Education, Oro; First and Second Degrees in Mathematics Education at University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife respectively. His area of interest is integrating technology into mathematics education.
He is a member of several professional associations nationally and internationally.
