Veteran Oyo State politician, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, has announced that he should no longer be referred to as a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that his political future remains undecided.
Speaking with Western Dailes in a WhatsApp call, Olopoeyan clarified that he currently belongs to no political party, having exited the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
His remarks follow widespread speculation after viral photographs surfaced showing him in the United Kingdom with some All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts, including former Oyo first lady Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi and former governorship candidate Senator Teslim Folarin.
Olopoeyan, who made a stopover in the UK after a recent visit to the United States, however, dismissed insinuations that the meeting signaled his defection to the APC.
“Meeting with APC chieftains doesn’t mean I am joining the APC. As of now, I am not in any political party, but soon, my decision will be made known,” he stated.
With this clarification, the Oyo political heavyweight appears to be keeping his options open as the state’s political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the next election cycle.
