A renowned businessman, philanthropist, and Chairman of Ejide Enterprises Nigeria Ltd, Alhaji Monsuru Ayoade Ejide, has paid a glowing tribute to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, describing him as a selfless leader who personified development and good governance during his lifetime.
In a statement issued on Tuesday to commemorate the 75th posthumous birthday of the late political icon, Alhaji Ejide extolled Alao-Akala’s legacy, describing him as a true lover of Ogbomosoland and its people.
He noted that Alao-Akala’s contributions to the growth and development of the region remain unparalleled, adding that his absence continues to be deeply felt across the state.
“Alao-Akala was not just a politician; he was a compassionate leader, a man of the people, and a visionary who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the masses.
“He exemplified what it means to be a true communitarian, someone who saw leadership as service and gave his all to raise the standard of living of the poor, the less-privileged, and the downtrodden,” Alhaji Ejide said.
He also emphasised that Alao-Akala’s administration brought tangible development to Oyo State, with a particular focus on rural communities that had long been neglected.
According to him, it was this dedication to inclusivity and grassroots development that earned him the endearing title, “Oyato Governor”, a testament to his unique and impactful leadership style.
“The name ‘Oyato Governor’ was not just a political slogan; it was a reflection of his exceptional governance style that stood out from the rest. He made the people his priority and governed with empathy, sincerity, and an uncommon zeal for progress,” he added.
The Islamic leader further remarked that Alao-Akala’s love for Ogbomoso and its heritage was evident in the numerous projects and initiatives he championed to uplift the town and give it a pride of place in the state’s socio-economic map.
As the late governor’s 75th birthday is marked posthumously today, Alhaji Ejide called on current and future leaders to emulate Alao-Akala’s leadership virtues, especially his commitment to people-centered governance, philanthropy, and communal development.
“He may be gone, but his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the communities he developed, and the hearts of those who knew him. Otunba Alao-Akala is sorely missed,” Ejide concluded.
Otunba Alao-Akala, who passed away in January 2022, served as the Governor of Oyo State from 2007 to 2011.
Otunba Alao-Akala was the first person from outside Ibadan to occupy the exalted office of the governor of Oyo State, and his tenure remains one of the most referenced for infrastructural development and inclusive governance.
