The Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Oyo State Command, Controller I.U. Nwosu, on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to the Political Head of Ogbomoso Central Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Taofeek Adigun Salawu.
The visit, which took place on October 6, 2025, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the NIS and the council in addressing security challenges posed by foreign residents in Ogbomoso and Oyo State at large.
Speaking during the meeting, Nwosu highlighted the need for joint efforts in combating cross-border crimes, irregular migration, and regulating the activities of foreign nationals.
He particularly urged the council to ensure that foreign nationals employed by private guard companies are duly registered with the NIS.
He further emphasised the importance of intelligence sharing and cascading collaboration down to the operational level for greater efficiency.
Hon. Salawu, in a statement by the acting Information Officer of the LCDA, Mr. Ikenna Nzom, pledged the council’s readiness to partner the immigration service, noting that local councils have a critical role to play in sensitising border communities against intruders and irregular migrants.
“We will work closely with the Nigeria Immigration Service to tackle this menace in the interest of peace and security of our people,” he assured.
The meeting ended with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to a stronger partnership in safeguarding Oyo State.
Hon. Salawu, who also heaped encomia on the astute leadership qualities of Governor Seyi Makinde on security matters, promised the unalloyed support of the council area towards a safer community.
