Ahead of the coming 2024 local government elections in Oyo State, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Taofeek Oloruntoyin Lamidi, has expressed his determination to contest and win the chairmanship election in Ogbomoso North local government area.
Hon. Lamidi, the youth leader of the APC in the council area has held many positions in the party, including ward secretary and ward youth youth leader in Abogunde ward and was a personal assistant to the present member representing Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire federal constituency, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, when he was the chairman of the council.
While speaking with pannigeriannews.com on Wednesday, Hon. Lamidi said his determination to contest the election was informed by his love for his council area in terms of infrastructure and welfare decadence as well as poor living condition of the people.
He explained that he made the decision, having consulted widely with the leadership of his party and his numerous followers.
He clarified his intention thus, “My Vision and mission as Executive Chairman, Ogbomoso North Local Government inshallahu include: management of essential public services like water supply, infrastructure maintenance. The goal is to ensure the public services are effective, efficient and accessible to the community. Formulating policies that address the needs and concerns of the community; example is developing plans for infrastructure, public services such as water supply, sewage disposal,, electricity, transport, public parks etc. then make sure it is implemented for effective work.
“I want to represent community’s interest by attending meetings, listening to grievances, suggestions and feedback by community, fostering and development of our local government by promoting social welfare activities. May God help me and everyone of us to succeed this project.”
Speaking further, he stated, “I wish to express my intention to contest the 2024 chairmanship election in Oyo State, particularly Ogbomoso North.
“My exposure to the grassroots politics has propelled me to be of great relief to our community.
“Apart from being a politician and administrator, I was a student unionist while I was in the school, having attended the Federal Polytechnic Ede and University of Ibadan, Ibadan.”
Countering the insinuation that the election will be be within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alone, he noted that such will be a disservice to the democratic principles and tenets.
“It is high time our people changed the narrative with a view to moving the community forward by actively participating in the electoral process,” Hon. Lamidi added.
