A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Executive Chairman, OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, promising to sustain the developmental strides of the current administration led by Seyi Makinde.
Adeniran made the declaration in a statement addressed to the people of the state, where he expressed gratitude for the support he has received over the years and outlined his motivation for seeking the state’s highest office.
According to him, the decision to run for governor came after “deep reflection, consultations and sincere prayers,” adding that his ambition is driven by a desire to serve rather than personal gain.
“I am offering myself to serve as Governor of Oyo State — not out of ambition, but out of conviction; not for power, but for purpose,” Adeniran stated.
The PDP stalwart highlighted his experience in public service, noting that he has previously served as a local government chairman, commissioner, and board member at both state and federal levels. He said these roles have given him a broad understanding of the unique challenges facing different parts of the state.
Adeniran also paid tribute to Governor Makinde, describing him as a leader whose governance style and vision have significantly transformed the state. He said he aspires to consolidate the progress made under the current administration.
“As a loyal student of his school of leadership, I have seen what true governance looks like,” he said. “I am stepping forward to consolidate the good works of Governor Seyi Makinde.”
He stressed that continuity is essential for sustainable development, arguing that the next administration must build upon the achievements of the “Omituntun” agenda initiated by the Makinde government.
“The legacy of Omituntun bequeathed to Oyo State must not and shall not die,” he said.
Outlining his vision, Adeniran promised to prioritise education, youth empowerment, security, and infrastructure development if elected. He said his administration would focus on ensuring access to quality education, creating opportunities for young people within the state, and strengthening governance structures to improve service delivery.
The governorship aspirant also appealed to residents across the state’s zones — including farmers, traders, teachers, artisans, healthcare workers, civil servants and students — to support his ambition.
“This journey is not mine alone. It is ours.
“It is for every son and daughter of Oyo State whose heart still beats with hope for a better tomorrow,” he said.
He concluded by calling on the people of the state to support his bid and pray for the success of what he described as a collective mission to advance the progress of Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
