A professor of physical/environmental chemistry at the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Olugbenga Solomon Bello, has emerged the overall best among the 20 most cited researchers of the institution.
The presentation of awards to the twenty most cited scholars, an annual ritual, was also part of LAUTECH’s 17th Convocation and 35th Founder’s Day ceremonies’ highlights.
Prof. Bello topped the 20 scholars with 9,464 citations, coming ahead of Professor Lateef Agbaje of the Department of Department of Microbiology with 7,366 citations.
Pannigeriannews.com reports that Professor Bello, an Ogbomoso-born scholar, has, in the last four years, been maintaining the first position.
Bello holds LAUTECH:s Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) as well as Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) of the University of Ibadan specialising in Chemistry.
He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Science, Malaysia; Visiting Scholar Fellow, University of Science, Malaysia; Sabbatical leave: Osun State University, Osogbo and spent his accummulated leave at Landmark University, Omu-Aran.
Among others, Professor Bello has also worked with Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo; Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.
Speaking with Pannigeriannews.com on Thursday, Prof. Bello said lack of facilities to carry out quality research that attracts numerous citations constitute one of the challenges researchers face in Nigeria.
He advised researchers to collaborate with other scholars in their fields, both within and outside Nigeria.
“I want to say that researchers face a lot of challenges, including facilities to carryout quality works. Amidst the challenges faced, researchers are encouraged to build strong and formidable networks, maintain focus and, above all, trust God for divine inspiration,” he said, adding, “My vision is to be a world-class scientist visiting top universities in the world and solving African challenges through research and innovations.”
Scholars among the LAUTECH’s top 20 awardees included Prof. Musibau Adewuyi Azeez, Prof. Julius Kola Oloke, Dr. Roland Ehohosa Akhigbe, Prof. Samuel Enahoro Agarry, Prof. Beatrice Iyabo Olayemi Adeomowaye, Prof. Omotayo Sarafadeen Amuda, Prof. Taofeek Akangbe Akangbe.
Others are Dr. Olakunle James Onaolapo, Dr Adejoke Yetunde Onaolapo, Prof. Olugbenga Edward Ayodele, Prof. Teslim Babatunde Asafa, Prof. Simeon Olatayo Jekayinfa, Prof. Adeseye Abidun Akíntunde, Prof. Wasiu Babatunde Akanbi, Prof. Akeem Ayinde Raheem, Prof. olusola Ojurongbe, Prof. Folorunsho Ajayi and Prof. Christiana Iyabo Oladipo.
