The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, considered a bill sponsored by the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, focused on the upgrade of the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo to a degree-awarding institution.
Titled Federal University of Geomatics, Oyo, (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (SB. 496) – First Reading, Akintunde said the institution, being the only surveying school in Nigeria and sub-sahara Africa, deserves to be upgraded.
Founded on 1st July, 1908 as a Government Departmental Training Institution attached to the Colonial Survey Department in Lagos for the training of Technical Assistants, it later moved from Lagos to Ibadan in 1926 and later to Oyo in 1934.
