As I woke this morning to see this pulchritudinous day, I am reminded of the birth anniversary of a giant in many respects.
The Nigerian I write about has many descriptions, ranging from a skillful teacher of music, experienced songwriter, superb composer, astute administrative wizard, loving father and husband, rapture-driven pastor and ‘musivangelist’ of high standing reputation.
The birthday boy, Oga Akin Odesola, is our very distinguished leader in many areas of endeavour.
Mr Akin Odesola (FIMC, MANUPA, CMC) is the current and pioneer Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council of the fast growing Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Before his appointment as Registrar at FEDPA, he had served in many capacities meritoriously at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology where he was Deputy Registrar. He held different positions, including that of my constituency, as LAUTECH Public Relations Officer.
Pastor Akin Odesola is the founder of Tumise Music House and his sojourn in the gospel music industry has really been a blessing unto the generation. As a student of secondary school in 1994 or thereabouts, we would listen to his songs in awe and we would be moved.
One secret, according to Oga Akin Odesola, is that he picked interest in me before he met me. Like he said, when we met at FEDPA, “Sunne, do you know I have always been following you and your writings. Each time I stumbled on you on digital space, I had always prayed for more wisdom and empowerment. Not only you! The likes of Mr Sayo Alagbe and Mr Adewuyi Adegbite!” I simply responded, “Why me? Situated with my bosses?” He simply softly said, “That’s the truth.”
One of the milestones offering the opportunity of celebrating the people we cherish in our lives is birth anniversary. And so such days represent a significant leap in the life of the particular celebrated enigma. You are one, Sir!
Today, Saturday, February 15, 2025, indeed, represents the birth of a hero who was born exactly 60 years ago. He was born to the family of Late Pa and Madam John Ayodele Ojo-Odesola of Ọtun Balogun Compound, Osupa Area, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Among others, he was educated at the prestigious University Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State where he studied English at Bachelor of Arts (BA) level and LAUTECH where he bagged a Master of Science (M.Sc).u
Odesola’s English oratory skill is native-like and I have always learnt a lot from his presentations. I was coming from journalism background and when we were preparing for FEDPA’s maiden matriculation in 2023, he told me something. “PRO, you see, I have listened and studied your presentations and I have no doubt in your competence. Whatever might look like mistake in the exercise is a style from you,” he assuringly said. Then, I chuckled. In summary, after the event, he gave a pass mark, like other leaders in the Polytechnic.
On this auspicious day, I wish you the very best of celebrations of many more milestones on the land of the living. May you continue to experience God anew every day, every year, every decade, even till centenary celebration in joy, peace, good health, and sound mind.
